Plan a Scrappy 2018!

I wanted to take a moment to share with you what we have planned, thus far, for our January!  We have lots of classes and events coming up that we love having you be a part of.  I don't know about you, but self-care is going to be one of my resolutions and a class a month or a little crop time is a great way to take a break from the chaos of home!

Before we get to 2018, just a friendly reminder of Inky Chicks and the VIC Sale!

December 30, 2017
Inky Chicks will be playing with Distress Crayons and experimenting with a few new techniques.  As always, our wonderful City Chick Margaret will be leading the way!  She will share some tips and tricks and then there will be open studio time.  The cost is $10 and when you attend Inky Chicks FIVE times, then you get a free gift!

Plus, it is VIC Day!  You get a huge discount on all your purchases in the store, if you have made it to a blue card.  Plus, at 5pm, we will have our drawing for the end of year Shopping Spree!  A few fine print notes, you must be present to win and there are a few rules that can be found in an email.  I am sure that it will be sent out again when we get a little closer.  Even if you don't win, come cheer on one lucky scrapper who will be running through the store!

And, now, onto January!

January 2, 2018
Join us for Scrap Club (rescheduled from December) as we play with the adorable Photoplay line Mad for Plaid!  There are a few seats available and kick off your year right!  The cost of the class is $32 and you can register right here.  There are classes at 12pm and 6pm.

Christmas Coloring!

Need a little stress relief during the holidays?  Need something to do with you hands while you watch those delightful Hallmark movies?  Got a teen or tween who needs to be entertained... screen free?  Try coloring pages!

I like to do the fancy coloring pages while I am watching tv at night with my family and have a hard time staying awake.  The fancy coloring pages are great for experimenting with new colored pencils and using some blending techniques!  There are tons of colored pencil tricks that you can find online... or if you see our City Chick Amanda H in the store, she is a colored pencil whiz!

Anyways, I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite coloring pages for the holiday season!

I hope you enjoy them or can share them with loved ones this holiday season!

Dyan's Sneak Peeks!

Did you catch Dyan Reaveley’s Facebook live yesterday? She shared some wonderful new goodies (and a sweet baby too)… and before you ask, yes, they will be headed to the store!

Without, further ado, I wanted to share some of the goodies that Dyan  shared!
A lot of these goodies are still top secret and we do not have a ship date yet.  Sometime in January is the best guess… but we will let you know when we have a definite expected date.  Dyan has another version of her classic Dyary; this year’s Dyary has new, brighter artwork inside.  She also shared a GIANT Dyary that is probably twice the size!  It is set up in the same format.  She also hinted at a lot of new accessories – dy-cuts with adjustable heads, a new sticker book, inks and paint pens, and washi tape!  Everything she shared coordinates with the current releases, so you can continue to use your stash!

If you want to see the video yourself, check this link righthere

If there is something you are dying to have your hands on, make sure you call the store and have it added to our hold book!  We don’t know when it is headed in, but when it does, we will grab one just for you and give you a call.  It is the best way to make sure you get one on the first order.

She is also sharing her 2017 Dyary with us… so stay tuned for the few days before and after Christmas for a closer look into her book!

We are so excited - how about you!?!

Need A Christmas Idea?

Do you have a hard to shop for family member?  A difficult to buy for teenager?  A friend that has *all the things*?  I highly recommend an "experience gift"!  My family has been really trying to do less material gifts this year and focusing on spending time together.  For some family members, we have gotten tickets to concerts, national parks, and even a local sightseeing attraction (left vague in case someone is reading :) )!

You can do the same thing here!  We have lots of classes and events that are great for people of all ages and ability levels!  You can check out our calendar right here

I have a few recommendations - a gift guide if you will!

Teens and Tweens - Try out Hand Lettering!  I have had kids in middle and high school take this class and LOVE it!  I know a lot of kids doodle and this is a great skill to have them off the screens and playing with paper!  Our next hand lettering class is January 8th at 6pm!  (This class is also great for adults too - I can teach anyone!)

Bible Study Bestie - Come as a pair and try out Bible Journaling!  It is a fun, relaxed evening where we learn a new skill/technique to journal and enjoy fellowship.  This month, we are turning any page into a coloring page!  This pairs great with a new Journaling bible (we have some in the store) and or a pack of colored pencils!  Bible Journaling is every second Tuesday at 6pm!

Also, in February, our Bible Journaling group is going to learn how to take hand lettered sermon notes!  Before this class, I *HIGHLY* recommend taking a hand lettering class.  There is one in January and on the Superhero crop!

Saturday Crop Day - I don't know about you, but sometimes the gift of time is the best!  Saturday crops are my favorite because you get to sit back, relax, craft, and watch a few movies!  This is a super social occasion and a great way to catch up with a friend.  Buy a gal a crop day and it is a day you will never forget!

We can't wait to see you and a friend here at the store!  You can call to sign up for any class or find them on our website!

Holiday Papercraft Week - Day 4!

We are so close to the end and I love today's craft!  I love a homemade Christmas paper and tags... one year, I wrapped everything in brown kraft paper and tied up with baker's twine.  This year, I am adding homemade gift tags to my gifts!

I think these are my favorite tags for this year!

This directions for this tag can be found right here.  She has a Silhouette cut file that makes these tags really easy!  If you wanted to do it without a Silhouette or Cricut, you could use dies to create these cute holiday shapes and add a few popdots to create texture!

I love how just a few tiny things, like a homemade tag, can really make you look like a gift giving rockstar - and the craftiest member of your family!

Holiday Paper Craft Week - Day 3!

I'm back with another super adorable project that you can do in one sitting!  I love making handmade anything ornaments and I hope that it s a tradition I can pass on to my son when he is old enough to make the choice to be crafty on his own!  I have made an ornament similar to this one before and they turn out so beautifully!

You can check out the full directions here!  This site recommends you use a punch and this editor suggests that you cut those out on your Silhouette or Cricut instead - for both time purposes and saving your thumbs!  Also, I recommend you use a thimble when pushing in all those pins.  It doesn't seem to bad, until you are on your hundredth pin and the pad of your thumb gets sore!  I have also made this with sequins instead of little pieces of paper and I love the way it glimmers in my tree light!

This is a great craft you can do with a kid who loves to make projects - it is simple, takes a few minutes, and is easy to complete!

Holiday Paper Craft Week - Day 2!

I am back with more adorable paper craft projects just for you this week!  I love using my Christmas paper for more than just pages - when it makes it to the dinner table, everyone gets to ooh and ahh over my Crate Paper collection!  All of these are quick crafts and I will be sharing the link that I found them so you can create them too!

Today, I have a sweet little gift card holder! I don't love giving gift cards, but sometimes it is the best option.... But, it is really fun to send a gift card in an unexpected way.  A few years ago I sent a homemade snow globe out of a mason jar through the mail to my cousins.  It was expensive and a little nailbiting to send a glass jar of water all the way to Florida and I don't recommend it!  However, these gift card holders have much less risk involved!

You can find all the directions right here!  I think this is so sweet and a great way to use that scrap stash!  What do you all think?  Totally doable and a little fancier than a plastic card!

Cute Christmas Paper Craft Week - Day 1!

This week I am going to feature all kinds of adorable (and fast) Christmas crafts that you can make at home!  I love using my Christmas paper for more than just pages - when it makes it to the dinner table, everyone gets to ooh and ahh over my Crate Paper collection!  All of these are quick crafts and I will be sharing the link that I found them so you can create them too!

First up, I found these adorable trees!  I think they would make precious placecards for dinner or a little forest that would make a great display piece.  And for anyone that thinks you don't need placecards, I regularly make them for my family of 3, even though we sit at the same seat EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.  It makes me feel festive and it makes my table look cute (especially when my child will only eat off of one non-holiday placemat).  This first project doesn't have a link (that I can find) to directions, but I am pretty sure you can do it!
How sweet is this little fores of trees! All you need is a triangle of patterened paper, a toothpick, some adhesive, and a Hershey kiss!

Cut your tree out - or use a die - and glue a toothpick on the back!  You could also use sections of skewers.  Then, stick them in the top of the Hershey kiss and voila!  I think it would be perfect with a name written on it!  Anyone else seeing a little Christmas tablescaping???

I love how these turned out and I love that this could totally be a kid-friendly project too!

Make and Take with Margaret!

We are so excited to have another Make and Take with Margaret!  We will be making a sweet shaker card just in time for the Christmas card season.  How cute is it!?!  I love all holiday things plaid and this card is perfect!

Please allow about 20 minutes to make the project!  Plus, you get a punch on your Make and Take card to get free crafting money (woohoo!)!  This is a great time to try out that fancy envelope lettering we featured on yesterday's blog post!

You don't have to make an appointment or call for a spot, just drop by between 10-2pm!  We can't wait to see you there!

Now, come on over and get crafty!

A Quick and Easy Guide to Fancy Card Addressing!

Is anyone wading through the process of Christmas cards?  I feel like I am up to my ears in addresses and stamps!  I love the photocards we made this year, but I always want to add a little personal touch to my cards.  I decided to put my hand lettering to work and get started cranking out some adorable envelopes!

At first, it seemed really daunting, but I have a few tips that will make your addressing adventure WAY easier!  Gather a pen, a light source, and your envelopes and let's get started!

Step 1: Trace It!
This trick is essential, especially for return addresses that are the same, every single time!  Copy your return until it is just right - I do this with tracing paper.  When you have it just how you like it, use a light pad, like the Cutterpillar Glo or your iPad with a lighting app, to copy  your sample right onto your envelope!  It works like a charm!  I prefer using a light pad, because it is a little bigger and doesn't slide on my table, but this is a make it work moment!

Step 2: Use your Cricut, Cameo, or Die Cut Machine
I love incorporating a banner or flag on the card!  Instead of free-handing (!) all of your cards, cut one out on your die cut machine and trace it onto your envelopes.  No one can tell and they all look even!  If you wanted to cut one out of each envelope, that works too!  Just make sure it is really well glued down at the corners so it doesn't get stuck in the automated mail sorter at the post office!   Below, is an after shot with a traced banner!  Seriously, so cute!

Step 3: Alternate It!
One of my favorite and easiest tricks to make your cards look awesome is to alternate a print and script font.  Do a line of each and it makes it look like your handwriting portfolio is way more diverse.

I used my Tombow Fudensuke Pen with a hard nib and my Tombow Monotwin pen to do my lettering!  I loved how they turned out and I can't wait for people to get them in the mail!  If you want to learn more about lettering, I will be teaching a class on January 8th at 6pm so pencil it on your calendar!

ScrapLift Wednesday!

I found this adorable scrap sketch and wanted to share it with you guys!  I thought it would be perfect for the holiday season.  I always have a TON of Christmas pictures and I thought it would be perfect to get all those Christmas morning pictures here!

Once again, I found this on Shimelle's website and I love it!  The simple background would go perfectly with the business of Christmas pictures.  I think I can already imagine it with some of my favorite Christmas lines!  Plus, I think if you needed a two page spread, this would be super easy to mirror image and make it look cohesive too!

What do you guys think?  Scraplift away and don't forget to tag us in your final copy!  You can share it on Instagram or Facebook - we can't wait to see what you are up to!

Under $10 Stocking Stuffers!

My family says that I am the most difficult person they know to shop for.  I think this is crazy... they clearly aren't shopping in the right places :)  But, I can see how it would be challenging for a novice to navigate their way though a scrapbook store when I own most of it have particular taste!  This is a great time to hand your family members a copy of your wishlist and tell them to go to town!

I was thinking about what some great gifts would be for any scrapbooker or card maker and create this list of cute stocking stuffers!  Enjoy!

Need I say more?  These are perfect for any scrapper and you can't go wrong with keeping a few extra in your stash!
I go through adhesive super quickly, especially with all my holiday crafting!  My personal favorite is Miracle Tape, half inch, and the Tombow liquid adhesive.  I would do a happy dance when I saw my favorite glue!

White Pen
I have tried many and my favorite is the Uni-ball Signo pen.  Love it, use it, have three of them!  I give it 5 stars!

Cardstock
Like adhesive, I go through it so quickly!  May I recommend a basic color like white or black!

I love these new zipper pouches in the store and they are in a range of prices!  Perfect for all the people in your life - not just scrappers!

I don't know about you guys, but I can never have too many of these!  They are great to have in your stash because they seem to go faster than I plan.

Coupon Book!
These are perfect for saving all year long!  Any crafter will appreciate this all month long!

Last but not least, if you are still overwhelmed... go for the gift card!
