One Little Worders... February Edition!

Hi Guys!

I wanted to check in and see how many of you all have finished your February One Little Word challenge... I am just now getting to mine and finished my vision board!  I feel like my word, brave, was giving me such a challenge to define in pictures it was slowing me down at the start.

I decided to create my vision board inside my album because hanging things on my wall is always a challenge and I wanted to be finished!  So, I created a fold out layout for my 6x8 album by using two sheets of cardstock that I washi taped together to create a folding page.

And then, I hit a small stack of magazines to create my work.  This was the most challenging part, being that most periodicals in my house are either Highlights or Ranger Rick Junior - and those don't really have the feeling that I was looking for!  I ended up using a Southwest airplane magazine from 2006 (!), a science magazine, one Good Housekeeping, and a MOPS periodical that was hanging around the house.  It was quite a hodge-podge of sources.

I did use the process Ali recommended, ripping out the pages and then going back and trimming them.  Because I had a smaller space to work with, I decided to put some of my "block" graphics on the back together.  And I do plan to add to them... when I find another magazine that inspires me.  I cut two pieces of cardstock - one to 6 3/4 inches x 8 1/4 inches and the other to 6 1/4 inches x 8 1/4 inches.  That gave me room to hole punch on the bottom one and the top just flopped out.  Then, I washi taped the and the bottom side to make sure that it would open and close easily.  I titled the front of my vision board and got to placing and gluing my images.  (I used a Tombow Tape Runner.)  And this is my final project - I am pretty proud!

I want to see your vision boards - who had theirs finished?  And, I have been thinking about the daily March challenge... what can I do to really push myself?  Share your thoughts, comments, or vision boards below or on our Facebook page!

Maggie Holmes Flourish Inspiration!

I know that so many of you guys were just as thrilled as I was when the new Maggie Holmes line rolled through the door!  Sometimes, when I get so excited to get a new paper, my scrapper brain turns off and I have a hard time getting started cutting into the paper.

So, I trolled around my favorite place for inspriation - Pinterest - and found these gorgeous layouts to help get you inspired to make the first trim!  Plus, all this fussy cutting is great for scrapping while watching the Olympics at the same time (or am I all the only who watches all the time).  And even though it is SUPER floral, I feel like it could go well in an album for my son with spring or Easter pictures or maybe even a trip to the nursery!

Fun fact... I love yellow flowers and I love the key role they play in this line!  The bright pop is just stunning and I can't wait to make my own layout inspired by these pieces!

Which one is your favorite?

Colored Pencils!

Have you guys seen all the amazing colored pencil art that is out right now?  I am in such envy of the amazing lettering and shading going on!  Seriously, check these amazing pieces out!

I am so excited to announce that next month's bible journaling class will be all about using colored pencils and making your coloring look fancy and smooth!  We will be learning a variety of techniques to make your coloring pop!

We are so excited to be getting Chameleon colored pencils in the store too!  They are a wax-based pencil that has a harder lead than a Primsacolor pencil.  This means that the lead doesn't break as easily - hooray!  Unfortanately, they don't blend well with Gamsol, which is commonly used to blend colored pencils.  The pencils are also two-toned which is great for blending and shading your coloring.

For bible journaling this month, all you need to bring is your bible, colored pencils (Crayola, Prismacolor, Chameleon, or Faber Castell) and a clear blending pencil.  If you want to register for class, call the store!  A registration link will be available soon!

Can't wait to see you all there!

Scrapbooking = Olympics

So, in case you don't know, I, Lesley Miller, am the biggest Olympic junkie in the world.  There is nothing I love more than the pageantry, the uniforms, the sports that are obscure... seriously, I love it all.  My husband and I plan to compete in Mixed Doubles Curling in the senior Olympics one day.  We are THOSE people!

So, as I was writing a blog post earlier this week, with the Olympics on in the background (obviously), I couldn't help but notice the similarities!  So, I borrowed some gifs of my friends from the Winter Olympics (and Michael Phelps) to help make my case... so without further ado...

When you sit down to get your scrapbook on:

And, it is time to start a brand new project, album, or craft!

Good news!  You work best with your favorite scrapbooking pal and you are both in the zone!

When you are carefully lining up all those pieces and parts!

All while avoiding life's distractions... laundry, dishes, and Pinterest

When it is time to bust out the really fancy embellishments you splurged on!

And maybe a little glitter too?!?

Then you seamlessly move to the next page without disruption!

And, finally, when you finish a project!

Am I right y'all?  Don't you feel all these things (and have the rippling abs too)?  Scrapbooking for the Olympics!

Now, go get crafty - and find some coverage!  Be a fan and watch those people do crazy things in the cold!

Post Valentine's Day Love

I wanted to share an adorable layout with you from one of our City Chicks - Amanda Hillard!  She made this PRECIOUS layout featuring the Doodlebug So Punny line, now available in the store.  It was designed for Valentine's Day, but it can be used for so much more than just February 14th pictures!

Amanda used this to share her love (and her son's love) of breakfast food!  My son has some breakfast food jammies... and he may have this layout too!  (They say "Breakfast Friends Forever with bacon and eggs holding hands... I know - they need this layout!)  The bacon and eggs page from Doodlebug makes me think of Ron Swanson's quote from Parks and Rec - "There is no sadness that cannot be cured by breakfast food" - and I feel like there is no sadness that cannot be cured by this paper line!

There are a ton of shape sprinkles and embellishments to go with this line, so if you are really loving the pizza or Chinese takeout, you can tailor your embellies to fit what you love! Drop in and grab this line while it is still here!

And, let's be real, breakfast love is for every day.... not just Valentine's Day!

All of us City Chicks want to take a second to wish you all the most wonderful Valentine's Day filled with love, chocolate, and scrapbook supplies!  I don't know about the rest of you, but I could skip the flowers and fill up my life with paper lines :)

As a little Valentine's surprise, I wanted to let you in on a little secret... We had 9 boxes arrive yesterday and it will be hitting the floor as soon as we can get it out!  I saw a little Maggie Holmes, Jane Davenport, Pink Paislee, Crate Paper, and Amy Tangerine, plus a small mountain of Thickers and other goodies!  Be sure you stay tuned to our Facebook page for all the details as it hits the floor!

Plus, don't forget to swing by and share a heart about a friend for the chance to win a paper pack! All you have to do is jot down something you love on a heart and share it on the wall - just be sure to include your name too.  We want to share our love with you!

Now, go finish those Valentine's!
